Courthouse Updates Prohibited Item Policy

The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office announced a change to its Courthouse policies effective Monday, February 6th; Deputies will discontinue the practice of holding prohibited materials and contraband brought into the Courthouse by the public.

Court Security Officers will no longer be responsible for retaining these items. Instead, members of the public will have the option to secure these items outside of the Courthouse. If the items are not secured, they will be seized and not returned.

This change is being made in an effort to ensure the safety and security of everyone who enters the Courthouse. The Sheriff's Office is committed to providing the highest level of service to the community while maintaining a safe and secure environment.

"We believe this policy change is in the best interest of everyone involved," said Sheriff Jack Campbell. "We encourage members of the public to secure their prohibited items in their vehicles before entering the Courthouse, or leave the items at home."

For more information about the new policy, please contact the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office at 217-753-6855 or visit the sheriff’s website.
